Forest Friday: Afternoon Outdoor Nature Immersion Program

Reggio Emilia Inspired Nature Program

  • K - 8th Grade
  • 3:30 - 5:30pm
  • 1 + 2 + 3 Day

Forest Fridays provide a time for children to connect with a special place in nature. Using the surrounding woods of the SHED Children’s Campus, the children will explore open-ended, imaginative, and interactive play in the context of the natural world.

Although teachers will participate to extend and scaffold exploration, ultimately this unstructured play will be lead by the children. The changing seasons will support us in developing new skills for problem solving, flexibility, and self-awareness. Adults are nearby to assist but not to intrude unless safety is at risk. In this landscape, children will be given the opportunity to create a lasting personal connection to nature.

Teachers will support and encourage exploration of child-led imaginative play while not intruding unless there is a safety concern or risk. The majority of our class time will be spent outside exploring in each season. With proper attire, our students will learn to embrace the rain, snow, and sunshine alike, as well as any other weather pattern that New England has to offer. Seasonal snacks will be provided to warm us up or cool us off.

  • These classes are set up for children not currently enrolled in Kid’s Club programming on this day.
