Our approach

Our Approach to Relationships & Learning

At SHED Children’s Campus, we know that strong relationships are at the heart of every child’s growth. We embrace the principles of secure attachment, inspired by the work of Dr. Dan Brown, as a guide for how we interact with children and how we help them interact with one another.

Our values

At SHED, we believe children thrive when they feel safe, seen, and celebrated.

Our values guide how we teach, how we care, and how we grow as a community.

  1. Respect

We treat every child’s voice, feelings, and experiences as valuable.

  2. Gentle Presence

Non-demanding availability, showing children they are never alone but always free to explore.

  3. Attunement

We listen, watch, and respond thoughtfully so children feel truly seen and known.

  4. Delight

We celebrate children with genuine joy, making sure they feel loved and valued for who they are.

  5. Support for Independence

We encourage autonomy and self-expression while providing a safe, secure base.

  6. Repair & Resilience

When missteps or conflicts happen, we model acknowledgment, repair, and forgiveness.

By weaving these practices into daily life, children experience not only joyful learning but also the foundations of trust, confidence, and empathy: qualities that last far beyond their years at SHED.

Our five pillars

Five Pillars

These five pillars work together to create an environment where children feel confident, curious, and connected.

This is how we support not just academic readiness, but lifelong growth.

“Children are not things to be molded, but people to be unfolded.”

At SHED, we embrace the Reggio Emilia belief that children learn and express themselves in a hundred different languages, through movement, art, conversation, curiosity, play, and more. We see the whole child mind, body, and soul, interconnected and alive with potential. Our role as educators is to create rich, responsive environments that honor each child’s unique language of learning and give them the time, space, and support to unfold.

The Reggio Emilia philosophy

Learning Through the Eyes of a Child

At SHED, we're inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, a philosophy that sees children as capable, curious, and full of potential. This short video offers a glimpse of what that means in practice: following the child's lead, creating rich learning environments, and fostering strong relationships among educators, children, and families.

  • Not just academically, but in their confidence, creativity…

From the moment we joined SHED, we were struck by the warmth and dedication of your educators and staff… Our child has gained so much during their time at SHED, not just academically, but in their confidence, creativity, and ability to connect with the world around them.

  • I wouldn’t leave my girls anywhere else.

I cannot speak highly enough of this program. The overall culture of the staff and administration fosters an amazing (and rare) sense of independence, curiosity, creativity, community and kindness. So grateful to have a program like this in Andover.

  • Teachers foster curiosity, imagination, confidence, and kindness.

From the first time we toured we knew it’s a wonderful place where teachers foster curiosity, imagination, confidence, and kindness. They did just that for our kid and beyond.
