A gentle rhythm, at your child’s pace

This program centers on building a strong sense of belonging while honoring each child’s natural pace of development. Through rich sensory experiences, meaningful play, and responsive caregiving, toddlers are encouraged to explore, communicate, and discover the world around them.

Each day follows a gentle rhythm that provides consistency while allowing flexibility for individual needs.

    Rooted in research

Everything in a Caterpillars day reflects decades of child development thinking. Here’s what it builds.

    • Builds

      Language and trust

      Responsive care builds the brain.

When an adult answers a toddler’s babble, gesture or glance, the brain builds connections. Researchers call it serve and return. Our educators are trained to notice and respond.

    • Builds

      Executive function

Play is how toddlers practice thinking.

Play is essential to healthy development. Hands-on, self-directed play is where toddlers first plan, try, adjust and try again.

      American Academy of Pediatrics

    • Builds

      Focus and persistence

      Curiosity drives learning.

We follow children’s natural interests. When learning grows from a child’s own question, attention lasts longer and the idea sticks.

      The Reggio Emilia approach

    • Builds

      Self regulation

      Belonging comes first.

Children who feel safe and known can take risks and stretch. Child-led exploration and small group moments nurture empathy, problem solving and communication.

      Secure attachment research

Our relationship principles, inspired by Dr. Daniel P. Brown’s secure attachment work.

    The third teacher

Learning with nature, not just outside

At SHED, the classroom is more than four walls. It’s a living space shaped by children’s ideas, questions, and discoveries. Rooted in the Reggio Emilia concept of the “third teacher,” our spaces are thoughtfully arranged to support calm, focus, creativity, and independence.

    Questions

    What toddler parents ask us

Still wondering about something? Call us at (978) 684-5055 or email hello@shedchildrenscampus.org. A person will answer.

Each child starts with a gradual transition planned with the family. Educators learn your child’s cues and comforts, and you are welcome to stay for the first visits.

No. Educators support toileting as part of the day and work with you when your child shows readiness.

Every child has a quiet rest time after lunch. Children who sleep are helped to settle; children who don’t rest quietly with a book.

Groups are kept small so every child is known. Ask us about current ratios when you tour.

Educators document each child’s explorations and share them with families, along with a quick word at pickup.

    Join us in the classroom

At SHED Children’s Campus, we see parents as partners in learning. We invite you to step into the classroom and share your unique skills, stories, or passions with our children: leading a simple art activity, playing an instrument, teaching a recipe, or sharing a cultural tradition.

So grateful to have a program like this in Andover. I wouldn’t leave my girls anywhere else.

    • Teachers foster curiosity, imagination, confidence, and kindness.

From the first time we toured we knew it’s a wonderful place where teachers foster curiosity, imagination, confidence, and kindness. They did just that for our kid and beyond.

    • Friends that can last a lifetime.

The teachers in the classrooms truly care about the children and making sure they have the best time possible. With an open classroom policy children are able to interact with children of other ages, classrooms and schools, creating an amazing sense of community and friends that can last a lifetime.
