Dear Parents,

We are extremely grateful for every family that joins us here at SHED.

Although we strive to be light hearted, we do not take our roles as educators lightly and are honored that you continue to choose us year after year.

Here at SHED we are most dedicated to fostering a child’s natural curiosity to help discover their own unique interests, talents and nature.

Creating the space for this to occur takes the well orchestrated efforts of our devoted educators and the tremendous support of our families.

As in nature, absolutely nothing exists by itself and we are so grateful you choose to be a part of our community and help us exist as we do.

If you are a parent currently considering a program for your son or daughter, we thank you for considering SHED and realize that this process can be daunting and overwhelming. We hope that you will reach out with any questions or come by for a tour of our program, so that we may offer some guidance to you during this whole process.

On behalf of the entire SHED staff,

The Reggio Emilia Philosophy

At the heart of the Reggio Emilia philosophy is the child.
Reggio believes that a child’s natural curiosity should be what drives the learning and that an educator’s job is to facilitate activities that help the child explore their natural interests and also to observe how the child learns.

At SHED, Reggio Emilia inspired means:

Our Campus

In Reggio, the environment is the Third Teacher. Our home on the stunning campus of Phillips Academy gives your child a pastoral setting in which to learn and explore.

Nature based learning is an integral part of our curriculum and is an essential part of your child’s experience here at SHED Children’s Campus. Your child experiences New England seasons in all their glory and has the unique opportunity to explore the distinct enjoyments and lessons offered by the spring, summer, fall, and winter.

We have 15 organic gardens in which your child farms, plays, and learns. We have trees to climb, woods to explore, hills to sled. SHED Children’s Campus gives your child two acres of nature to enjoy all year.

“If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement & mystery of the world we live in."

Meet Our Incredible Staff

Our team of hardworking, caring and dedicated individuals are what make our organization and our programs so incredible.

Most of our educators have personally gone to Reggio Emilia, Italy, where the teaching style originated. To experience firsthand the intrinsic subtleties that exists within a city where the Reggio philosophy is practiced at every school and throughout the entire community, is a learning that transcends any reading and has significantly shifted each teacher to show up in a whole new way, as passionate and purpose driven educators.

Our educators are constantly and consistently practicing what we preach as they themselves take trainings, lead workshops and attend events that will help them explore new ideas, discover new techniques and expand their interests so that they may continue to grow into more expansive educators.

“When we engage in what we are naturally suited to do, our work takes on the quality of play that stimulates creativity.” – Linda Naiman
